Six-Phase Thematic Analysis

Familiarize Yourself with Data

CRS will aggregate and examine your data collectively as a whole to extract any initial patterns or themes.  By data we are referring to all available information including transcripts.  The analysis that follows is derived from this initial step, so it is crucial to consider all possible schemes.

Coding

Once familiarity with data points has been achieved, CRS will begin assigning preliminary codes which set apart one data point from another.  These codes help identify patterns within the data.

Generating Initial Themes

Next, the coded data points are subject to interpretive analysis.  It is at this point that general themes are introduced and data points fall into one or more categories.

Extracting Custom Themes

A thematic map is then generated using a two-step process where the themes are checked in relation to the coded data and then against the overall set.  This process results in themes being narrowed down and finalized.

Fine-tuning Themes

Further analysis is performed to define and name themes and have working definitions for future data points.

Producing the Report

Lastly a report is generated which discusses the themes and gives supporting arguments from data points within the set.  The report should be centered on convincing the reader of the validity of the analysis, not merely describing it.
